The 45th Relay Prize for Traveler Readers was awarded to Hélène Gestern for her book 555 published by Arléa.
The jury was made by Marlène Dolveck, Managing Director of SNCF Gares & Connexions.
The writer’s novel was in competition with: Connemara by Nicolas Mathieu (Actes Sud). Agincourt in rainy weather by Jean Teulé (Mialet – Barrault). Chief by Gautier Battistella (Grasset). Heart of the Sahel by Djaïli Amadou Amal (E. Colas).
Grégoire Coblence, partner of a luthier, discovers an old score. After having had it deciphered, he becomes certain that it was written by Domenico Scarlatti, the most illustrious of harpsichord composers. But the partition disappears.
After the beautiful biographical account of Armen Lubin, Hélène Gestern returns to the novel with this enigmatic 555. As often with the author, the classic novel doubles as an investigation. This is an investigation without an investigator. But rather the resolution of an enigma that keeps us in suspense until the end. What is it about ?
If you like treasure hunts, this book is for you. And when in addition we make you discover Scarlatti like never before, it’s like a gift! There reigns in this novel an indescribable music, marvelously orchestrated by the writer!
A captivating read off the beaten track.
